Hello, we are Christina and Ian. We have a small but growing jewelry company, Retuned Jewelry, where we hand make high quality jewelry from repurposed, used guitar and bass strings. Like our many friends in the music industry, the pandemic has been especially hard on our business as well. We generally spend much of the year traveling around as a vendor at large music and art festivals. In 2019 we were invited to participate at events such as Coachella, Rocklahoma, The Big Blues Bender and many others. Obviously, once the pandemic set in, all of our events were, and continue to be cancelled.
As many of our friends work in the live music industry, we know first hand how they are struggling right now. The unfortunate truth is we don’t know how long concerts and events will continue to be shut down. Since we, too, are shut down for the foreseeable future, we would like to try to do something to help the industry that has been the source of our inspiration.
Music has always been a big part of our lives. When we started Retuned Jewelry, one of our goals was to be able to give back to the community that has meant so much to us. We currently work with a charity, Blue Star Connection, where we make jewelry from various blues artists’ strings that they auction off as part of their fundraisers. We have made jewelry using strings from such artists as Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Danielle Nicole, Brandon Miller, Walter Trout, and Kate Moss.
The music industry is our inspiration. Not just the music, but the people have become a huge part of our lives. Music evokes so many emotions. It inspires, relaxes, motivates and comforts. With your help, we can give back to an industry that means so much for so many. Music is there when we need it. Now we want to be there when it needs us.
